Trayvon's Parents Speak Out For 1st Time- The verdict in the Trayvon Martin case has been stirring up a lot of emotions and actions in people across the country. Those closest to Trayvon, his parents, have spoken out for the first time since the verdict. During an interview on CBS they said that the verdict was a “shock” and that they are disgusted by the outcome. They are frustrated with the jury and some of the publics misconstrued view of their son who they, and many others believe, was wrongfully targeted. On GMA his father said, “I think people are forgetting that Trayvon was a teenager, so he probably thought as a teenager. I really do believe he was afraid because he did call George Zimmerman creepy. So he was afraid and if you are 17-years-old and you are afraid, you may not know what to do.”

Dr. Boyce Watkins Calls Out Jay-Z- Dr. Boyce Watkins is not so pleased with Jay Z’s choice of words toward Harry Belafonte. The beef started last year when Harry Belafonte spoke out about black celebrities not doing enough to give back- specifically Mr. and Mrs. Carter. In Jigga’s new song ‘Nickels and Dimes’ he says, “I’m just tryna find some common ground ‘fore Mr. Belafonte come and chop a n**** down. Mr. Day O major fail, respect these youngins boy, it’s my time now. Hublot homie, two door homie you don’t know all the s*** I do for the homies.” Dr. Watkins found Jay Z’s comments disrespectful and believes that Mr. Belafonte’s challenge to Jay Z was appropriate. Throughout his letter he said, “I’m not sure why Jay-Z, an entertainer who can’t find much to talk about other than the last Bentley he bought, can’t look to a great man like Harry Belafonte for guidance on how to make himself something more than just another dude who can spit dope lyrics… , I dare say that if Harry Belafonte had the same attitude as Jay-Z, millions of lives would have been altered for the worse… Jay-Z has $500 million dollars in the bank and still allows white folks to scare him into remaining silent about nearly any political issue impacting the people he left behind in Marcy Projects… I hope Jay-Z will issue an apology to Harry Belafonte. Were it not for the sacrifices of Belafonte and men of his generation, Jay-Z would still be”slingin” on the corner or rapping on the chitlin circuit.”
Detroit Is Bankrupt- Detroit is the largest city in US history to have ever filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The city filed yesterday in federal court. Detroit is in billions of dollars of debt because of mismanagement, people leaving the city and loss of tax revenue. The filing will determine whether Detroit is eligible for Chapter 9 protection which would held them to deal with the creditors and unions trying to get more than $18.5 billion in debts and liabilities. Michigan’s governor said that this is a difficult decision but, “The fiscal realities confronting Detroit have been ignored for too long. I'm making this tough decision so the people of Detroit will have the basic services they deserve and so we can start to put Detroit on a solid financial footing that will allow it to grow and prosper in the future.”
