Photographer Who Captured Obamas Selfie Speaks - Yesterday we talked about Obama taking selfies with the female Danish Prime Ministers (who it seems he was having a great conversation with) and British Prime Ministers as the FLOTUS looked on with a grill face. IG and Twitter memes flocked showing Mrs. Obama and all her faces before changing seats and sitting between the Danish Prime Minister and her hubby. The photographer who shot the photos has spoken out to clear up any misconceptions that are out there about the images. AFP photographer Robert Schmidt said, “The fact that she's kind of looking furious in the picture, I think she just wasn't involved with that moment, but I don't think it says more than that… took these photos totally spontaneously, without thinking about what impact they might have. At the time, I thought the world leaders were simply acting like human beings, like me and you… It's because we never get to see them in such light. Nowadays, access is so controlled that we just don't see that, which I think is a shame. If as media we had more access to them, and showed them more as humans, which they are, then maybe, you know, images like this wouldn't be so shocking for people, or so entertaining - they wouldn't make such a big buzz.” When asked about the appropriatness of taking selfies at a funeral, he was it was a memorial and everyone was singing and rejoicing his memory. The atmosphere was a happy one.
Mental Health Funding For Newtown Anniversary - This Saturday is the year anniversary the Newtown, Connecticut shootings that left 20 children and 6 adults dead, Joe Biden has announced government efforts to increase access to mental health services because some people are still tramatized. So now there is a push to get more than $100 million in government funding to improve access to these life saving mental services. Biden met with families of victims and mental health advocates and said, “The fact that less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need is unacceptable.” The White House is trying to get Congress to allocate $130 million in training and treatments for teachers and people who work with youth to recognize the signs of mental illness. Saturday marks the 1 year anniversary of the shootings and while the families have asked for privacy Obama and the White House plan to host a moment of silent for the victims. White House officials have said, “he administration will spend $50 million from its Health and Human Services budget to help community health centers hire more mental health professionals and provide more services and another $50 million from the Agriculture Department budget to improve mental health facilities in rural areas.”
R. Kelly Compares Chris Brown To Jesus And MLK - Chris Brown is currently serving 90 days in a rehab program and he has a supporter in R. Kelly who has blasted his haters and called them all “weak”. In defense of Breezy during an interview, Kelly went a little further than expected and compared him to Muhammad Ali, Jesus and Martin Luther King Jr. He said “I only feel sorry for weak people. And mostly what I've come to find is that the weak people are the ones that are the haters. The ones that's talking about Chris Brown, or R. Kelly, or anybody that's successful? I feel sorry for them, not Chris Brown, because he's obviously one strong individual to be able to do what he's done. He got knocked down a little bit and he climbed up. You know, that sounds like Ali to me. That sounds like Martin Luther King to me. That sounds like a lot of the greats that have walked this earth. It even sounds a little bit like Jesus to me.” After R. Kelly’s judgment call in starting that crazy “#AskRKelly” hashtag people are really starting to question what’s going on with him. A second later, he clarified the statement though. "I'm not saying that Chris Brown is Jesus or R. Kelly is Jesus," he explained. "But Jesus is the No. 1 inspirer of someone being knocked down and rising again."
George Zimmerman Won't Be Charged Again - Looks like George Zimmerman is off the hook again. According to reports, he will not be charged in the domestic dispute incident with his girlfriend that he was arrested for last month. This decision comes just a few days after Samantha Scheibe, Zimmermans girlfriend, requested that the charges be dropped. She said they were pressuring her and not allowing her to eat or drink during the questioning. The state attorney made an official statement about the case saying, “Upon reviewing the recent affidavit of the Ms. Scheibe and taking into account the conflicting statements about what occurred, the failure to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and a lack of any other corroborating evidence or witnesses, there is no reasonable likelihood of successful prosecution.” Zimmerman and his team are of course pleased with the decision. His lawyer said, “On behalf of George Zimmerman, I am pleased that I was able to present credible evidence to reasonable prosecutors who took the time to listen and that justice prevailed. This demonstrates how great our system is."
TIME Names Person Of The Year - Yesterday TIME named their ‘Person of the Year’. In an official statement Pop Francis was given the title. The Person of the Year title is awarded to the individual who had the most influence on the world and the news, for better or worse, over the past year." Miley Cyrus came 3rd place for this. Time says, “He took the name of a humble saint and then called for a church of healing. The septuagenarian superstar is poised to transform a place that measures change by the century.” Time’s editor made his own statement saying, “He's changed perceptions of the church from being this out-of-touch institution to one that is humble and merciful. He's changed the focus of the church from being focused on doctrine to becoming more about service. And he's changed the tone in which the church speaks to one of compassion. It's all about the poor. This is the church as it used to be in its -- arguably its best period in the past. And Francis seems to be bringing that back… He's talking about homosexuality, about giving women a bigger say in the church. These are things that are very, very important. They're not just words. He's actually following them up with action.”
Kanye Rants About Grammys - Kanye has had another visionary stream of consciousness aka another rant. During his "Yeezus" show in Arizona, Ye blasted the Grammys. So I thought Kanye wasn’t going to rant because Yeezus was nominated for Rap Album Of The Year and Best Rap Song for “New Slaves,” but apparently he’s unhappy with his 2 Grammy noms. The rapper said, "I'm 36 years old and I have 21 Grammys. That's the most Grammys of any 36-year-old. Out of all of those 21 Grammys, I've never won a Grammy against a white artist. ... So when the Grammys nominations come out, and Yeezus is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys, what are they trying to say? Do they think that I wouldn’t notice? Do they think that, someway, that I don't have the power to completely diminish all of their credibility at this moment?" Oh Yeezy.
Boy Kisses Girl On Hand And Gets Charged - A 6 year old first grader from Colorado has been suspended from school for doing what he’s probably seen some kids movies. The boy named Hunter Yelton told CNN “We were doing reading group, and I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That's what happened." The school has suspended him for sexual harassment. The boy’s mom thinks the steps are a drastic. During an interview she said “This is taking it to an extreme... Now my son's asking questions, 'What is sex, mommy?” The boy has been in trouble at school before for being rough with other students and for kissing this same girl on the cheek. The superintendent of schools made a statement about the incident saying “Our main interest in this is having the behavior stop because the story is not just about the student that was disciplined, it is also about the student receiving the unwanted advances.” The boy’s mother says that the girl involved considers herself her sons “girlfriend.” Mom wants the incident removed from the boy’s school record.

Lisa Raye sat down with Sister 2 Sister Magazine’s Jamie Foster Brown to describe what a gold digger is to her.
Jamie: What’s the biggest misconception about you?
LisaRaye:That I’m a gold digger.
Jamie: That ain’t no misconception. What the hell is that? You just said that you want a billionaire. What’s the difference?
LisaRaye: Why is that considered a gold digger? Do we say that when the White girls say that? Do we say that when we take our kids to the Ivy League school and they go to bar mitzvahs and all of those social events? But when we’re Black, they got to be, “She’s a gold digger.” How is that?
I think that a gold digger is a woman that wants to be taken care of, but she’s not bringing anything to the table. She just wants you to do what you’re supposed to do for her and she’s not feeling she needs to do anything.
