No Charges Filed For George Zimmerman In Domestic Dispute - George Zimmerman is off the hook yet again. Just days after his wife Shellie filed for divorce they were involved in a domestic dispute where George was accused of pulling a gun, striking Shellie’s father and smashing her iPad to pieces. According to a police spokesperson from Sanford, Florida Zimmerman will not face charges for the incident because investigators determined that it didn’t rise to a “criminal level”. Since the altercation Shellie Zimmerman has come forward to say that she now questions her husbands account of what happened on the night Trayvon Martin was killed and that he feels “invincible” since he was acquitted of those murder charges.
Barney’s Accused Of Being Racist - Department store ‘Barney’s’ is being accused of racism for two different scenarios. The first involved a 19 black year old college student who was racially profiled in New York after buying a $350 Ferragamo belt. Trayon Christian says that after he purchased the belt he was stopped about two blocks away from the store by two undercover police officers who asked to see his ID and the debit card that he used to purchase the belt. He was then taken down to the police station where he says he was held for 2 hours and questioned about why he was buying such an expensive belt while being accused of using a fake debit card. Christian and his mother are understandable enraged by the situation and have filed a civil suit against the store. Another shopper, Kayla Phillips, has since come forward to report a similar type of experience. She’s a 21 year old who is expecting her 2nd child and bought a $2500 Celine purse. She says that after purchasing the bag she was stopped about four blocks away from the store by four undercover police officers who pushed her, questioned her and asked her why she used a debit card without a name on it. She explained that it was a temporary card and after showing ID and explaining why she bought the bag and where she lived she was let go. Phillips has filed a $5 million claim with the city. The CEO of Barney’s who didn’t have much to say after Christian’s encounter has made an official statement now saying:
Barneys New York believes that no customer should have the unacceptable experience described in recent media reports, and we offer our sincere regret and deepest apologies.Further to our statement of yesterday, we want to reinforce that Barneys New York has zero tolerance for any form of discrimination. We are a strong proponent of equal rights and equal treatment for all human beings. NBA Approves Finals Format Change - NBA owners unanimously voted to change the Finals format from 2-3-2 to 2-2-1-1-1. The 2-3-2 format has been in place since 1985. In the 2-3-2 format the team with the home-court advantage would get the first two and possibly the last two games at home with the opposing team getting to play the three middle games at home. Now the home-court team will get to play the first two games at home, the opposing team will get the next two and the final three (if necessary) will be alternated. I think this makes it fair. NBA Commissioner David Sterm explained, “There has been," Stern said, "an abiding sense amongst our teams, and they've stated two things: One, in a 2-3-2 series, it's sort of not fair for the team with the better record to be away. And two, it's difficult for the team — the better team in terms of record to spend as many as eight days on the road away from home…So for all those considerations and many others, the Competition Committee voted, it was explained to the owners, and they voted to make the change.”
Tax Filing Season Delayed Thanks To Shutdown - The IRS has announced that thanks to the recent 16 day government shutdown you’ll have to wait a little longer to file your taxes with Uncle Sam next year. Tax season was originally set to start on January 21st but will now be pushed back a couple of weeks. The IRS will start accepting applications sometime between January 28th and February 4th. You can technically send in the forms at any time but they won’t be looked at until the season starts. The IRS says they are doing everything possible to minimize the delay.
Child Cured of HIV in Mississippi - Doctors in Mississippi have strong evidence that a baby being treated for HIV may be cured. The baby contracted the virus from the womb of her untreated mother and was placed on triple drug therapy treatment soon after birth and continued the treatment for 18 months. She was out of doctor care for several months in between the treatment and when she was retested there was no sign of the virus in her system. She is now 3 and is still showing no signs of the virus. While this is promising one of the doctors on the case said “At this point, because the follow-up is only 18 months [from the time she reappeared], we cannot declare this child as being cured of HIV. Declaring the child cured of HIV would require a much longer follow-up period, say several years, to be able to say the virus has truly been eliminated or eradicated from the child’s body.” In addition to the absence of the virus the little one also seems to have a fully functioning immune system.
Push Up Bra For Men - Men are vain too and a company called Funkybod is capitalizing on it. The company has created what looks like a push up bra for men. It’s a muscle shirt that contains plates in the chest, shoulder, bicep and tricep areas to create the appearance of a more bulky build and bigger pectoral muscles. Funkybod assures customers that they appear natural. One of these will cost you about $30.
