The More You Text The Less You Sleep - According to a new study published in the Psychology of Popular Media Culture, sending and receiving too many text messages close to bed time can negatively impact the quality of your sleep.83 college students were surveyed and those who reported texting more also reported less sleep. The researchers says this is due to the buzzing and lights the phone can create which disrupt sleep patterns. They suggest putting your phone on silent (not vibrate) or on the 'do not disturb' setting to ensure that your sleep is as uninterrupted as possible.
Pitbull Has Started His Own Charter School - Pitbull has now been added to the long list of celebrities who have sponsored their own charter schools. The Sports Leadership and Management Academy is located in Miami and is for kids in grades six through 12. The program has a “vocational” twist based on sports and is designed for kids who are easily bored in school. Pitbull said, “If sports is what you love, one way or another, it's a business you can get involved with ... whether you're a therapist, an attorney, a broadcaster. They're already labeling me 'Mr. Education.'… [A] lot of these kids are so creative ... but no one believes in them. ... No one motives them. I relate to them ... but then I give it to them raw.” Critics of the school are not sure whether the celebrity appeal of the school sports basis will actually be beneficial to students. Students enrolled have different sentiments. One 17 year old spoke about his transferring to the school and his views of Pitbull, “He came from nothing and became something huge. ... It shows like not a lot of people are handed everything.”
Adrian Peterson Attends His Sons Funeral And Speaks On 7 Kids - Adrian Peterson attended the funeral of his 2 year old son who was beaten to death last week. Peterson found out about the son about two months ago saying, “I was planning on seeing him,” Peterson said. “I had a talk with his mom and we got some things together as far as financially helping her. Unfortunately this situation took place. It’s devastating. A lot of people won’t ever understand the situation that I’m in and see it the way I’m seeing the situation. It’s tough, but I’m able to deal with that and got a good supporting cast around me that’s been supporting me through this tough time.” Rumors have also come to light about whether he has 7 children by 5 different women. He spoke out about the gossip saying “People are going to speculate. They’re going to say this and that. I can’t let that bother me. I’ve been too focused on trying to mourn and be there for his mother and take in the loss of my son. I haven’t been able to focus on anything else outside of that.”
Allen Iverson Officially Retiring - Since September there has been chatter that Allen Iverson was considering officially retiring from the NBA. He hasn’t played since the 2009-2010 year but he always talked about coming back to play. Well word is he is officially hanging up his jersey on Oct 30th at the home opener. Iverson is 38-year-old, an 11-time All-Star and he finished his career averaging 26.7 points per game ad he currently ranks 19th in all-time scoring. Iverson is the smallest player ever to average 20 points or more for his career at just 6 feet tall. Rumors are that the 76ers are looking into a post-playing position to keep Iverson with the team that he has been with for 11 full seasons.
Don Lemon Speaks On Adrian Peterson - CNN Host Don Lemon is known for not holding his tongue. He has recently spoken out about Adrian Peterson and the death of his two year old son calling Peterson more ‘MIA’ than ‘MVP’- in regards to Peterson’s absence from his child’s life. He said, “The child’s death is certainly tragic. And I feel bad for all of those who loved him. But like many people out there, i’m struggling with how to feel about his dad, Adrian Peterson… Peterson never met the boy. The boy was never flown to meet him for the weekend. He never flew to meet the boy on one of his days off… Peterson didn’t meet the boy until he lay in a hospital bed on life . Because although Peterson didn’t know definetly that the boy has his until a few months ago. A Few months are not a few weeks not a few days. A Few months are a few months. That’s a long time. He went on to write, “The cold hard fact is that children of single parents have a 77 percent greater risk of being harmed by physical abuse than children living with both parents. That’s according to the National Incidence Study. And many kids in a single parent households are physically and or sexually abused by their mother’s boyfriends or acquaintances; the men who come and go who have no connection to the child.” He seemed to directly jab at Peterson saying, “BUT, he’s also a man of means; multi-million dollar contracts and it’s logical to assume that he can afford to bring the child to him if he couldn’t go to the child. Seems like he has a problem with the fact that AP wasn’t there fast enough. Check his full rant HERE.
Philly Rapper Robbed Of 40Gs In Atlanta Waffle House - 25 year old Philly rapper, Louie V Gutta, was allegedly in Atlanta at a Waffle House when he and two of his friends were robbed for $40K. Gutta is signed to Meek Mills’ Dreamchasers label. They were in the restaurant at about 6:30AMwhen several men came in with a semiautomatic handgun and demanded the $20,000 diamond-covered Rolex watch, a $6,000 gold chain with a diamond pendant, a custom-made Submariner Rolex watch worth $13,000 and 2 iPhones worth $500 each. Gutta said that he does not want the police involved, " There's no reason for the police to be involved," said rapper Louie V Gutta, whose real name is Vincent Lamar Robinson. "If I heard on the streets tomorrow who did it, I wouldn't go to the police. That kind of stuff happens every day," he said. "It's unfortunate this time it was on me, but I don't want nobody locked up behind it. I don't really live by that.”
Brooklyn Board Member Says Biggie Is Too Fat And A Criminal To Have A Block Named After Him - A Community board in Brooklyn was considering naming a corner “Christopher Wallace Way” after legendary rapper Biggie Smalls. Some of the boards are blocking it now. One member, Lucy Koten, said “He started selling drugs at 12, he was a school dropout at 17, he was arrested for drugs and weapons charge, he was arrested for parole violations, he was arrested in North Carolina for crack cocaine, in 1996 he was again arrested for assault, he had a violent death and physically the man is not exactly a role model for youth. I don't see how this guy was a role model and frankly it offends me." Some board members cited his “misogynist” lyrics and weight as other reasons he shouldn’t be considered. Member Leroy McCarthy is in support of the name change and said that Biggie’s weight should not be a factor and that the lyrics were simply a reflection of his street upbringing. McCarthy has the support of “two local churches, a mosque, a nearby block association, several local businesses and more than 1,000 comments from people all over the world who signed an online petition in support of the co-naming.” Seems like this isn’t going to happen. Poor Mrs. Wallace.

Philly School District Money Will Not Be Used To Hire Nurses - Two days ago Governor Corbett announced that he would release $45 million that he was withholding from Philadelphia schools. Some say this change came largely as a result of the girl who died because there was not adequate staffing at her school to deal with her asthma attack. Despite the death the money will not be used to hire additional nurses for the school system. Superintendent Hite said, “The priorities are the things that are required by law or by contract and that’s where we’re starting first.” They plan to rehire counselors, support staff and some teachers. Hite says that if they can get more funding and concessions from the current staff they’ll be able to hire more nurses.
