Strings Attached To Philly School Grant - The Philadelphia school district had been struggling to come up with the multiple millions of dollars that it needed to open its doors on time. They tried everything from grants, to borrowing, to asking teachers to accept pay, seniority and other benefit cuts. Governor Corbett has said that he will not release the $45 million grant given to the district until his education secretary determines whether reforms have started to make the schools more financially sound. This restriction was also placed on the $120 million the schools planned to collect from a 1% sales tax increase in Philadelphia due to start next year. Some of the reforms will require teachers to have longer work days and receive pay based on performance or their willingness to work in “challenging schools” and take on extra work. Parents and teachers have protested the reforms citing decreased educational quality and mistreatment of teachers.
Made In America Comes To Philly - Jay Z and Budweiser brought their second annual Made in America Festival to Philly this past weekend. The two-day festival included several performance stages and musical acts spanning a variety of genres including headliners- Nine Inch Nails and of course Mrs. Carter! Other performers included A$AP Rocky, Emeli Sande, Public Enemy, 2 Chainz, Solange, Macklemore, Kendrick Lamar, Miguel and Wiz Khalifa. The show brought out around 60,000 music lovers out to the Ben Franklin Parkway. I went to both days and I have to say Beyonce tore it down! 2 Chainz also did really good and really surprised me! Wiz Khalifa bought out Amber Rose during his performance and Amber even instagramed a photo of her a Beyonce talking about their kids, Bash and Blue, dating.

Dunkin Donuts Apologizes For Blackface Ad - Dunkin Donuts released an ad in Thailand that featured a woman in blackface makeup advertising a new chocolate donut called the “Charcoal Donut”. Human rights groups immediately pounced on the commercial calling it “bizarre and racist”. One activist in particular said, “It's both bizarre and racist that Dunkin' Donuts thinks that it must color a woman's skin black and accentuate her lips with bright pink lipstick to sell a chocolate doughnut.” DD’s Chief executive in Thailand tried to do some damage control via Twitter issuing an official apology saying “We are working with our Thailand franchisee to immediately pull the ad. DD recognizes the insensitivity of this spot.” Another rep for DD viewed the criticism as “paranoid American thinking”. He thinks the backlash was ridiculous and said, We're not allowed to use black to promote our doughnuts? I don't get it. What's the big fuss? What if the product was white and I painted someone white, would that be racist?”

She went on to say, "I don't have a normal life. take a hiatus every now and again but I'm not good at that.” She said that she while on popular pre-teen show Hannah Montana she was merely acting and that she never pretended to be the goody-two-shoes the show tried to make her out to be. Jay Electronica Wanted Control For His Album - The highly talked about Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar track ‘Control’ initially featured Jay Electronica who wanted the song for his own album. During a recent interview he said, “It was me and Big Sean, and we had verses on there. Then when he told me it wasn't on his album, I was gonna use it for my album.” He doesn’t seem upset about the change in plans because he went on to say, “Then he told me the day before it came out, that Kendrick put a verse on it and that we're gonna put it out. It's a good thing for Hip-Hop music because Hip-Hop has been laying dormant for a long time.” During the same interview Electronica avoided questions about when his debut album Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) would be released.
