Jay Z Breaks Spotify Record- Jay Z’s 12th studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail has racked up more than 14 million streams in the US and can claim the title of having the biggest first week and single day of any album on Spotify, which is the commercial music streaming service! MCHG had 14 million streams during its first week beating out the record holder, Daft Punk, who had 8 million streams. Jigga’s tour partner Justin Timberlake held the record before Daft Punk with The 20/20 Experience. These three albums have made 2013 Spotify’s biggest year ever. I also read that Jay’s physical sales of 528,208 makes him 2nd in most first week sales behind Justin Timberlake. This is not including the digital million sales he already has with Samsung because you know certain outlets are being shady and not counting those sales.
Retailers Ban Rolling Stone Cover Featuring Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect- The August issue of Rolling Stone Magazine has been banned from several major retailers because of its feature of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover. CVS, Walgreens and Stop & Shop are among those who are boycotting the issue. The Boston Mayor and governor have also spoken out against the magazines feature of the suspect calling it “disgraceful.” In response Rolling Stone has said, “the fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is young, and in the same age group as many of our readers, makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue.” The title of the cover reads “The Bomber: How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical islam and became a monster.

Nipsey Hussle Cuffed During Trayvon Martin Rally- Nipsey Hussle, a rising west coast rapper, was handcuffed on Tuesday night during a rally for Trayvon Martin in Los Angeles. The LAPD officers say that Hussle’s actions made them believe that he was carrying a firearm so they subdued and handcuffed him. They soon realized that he was unarmed and they let him go. Nipsey says "hyper-sensitive LAPD officers" overreacted and used “excessive force” when stopping him and his crew and held them for 4 hours. Cops blamed the mix-up on officers who were monitoring the event in a police helicopter and they believed they saw Nipsey with a gun. Nipsey said he was especially upset at the way cops treated his disabled brother and that "they pushed his face on the concrete. They dropped a knee in his spine then twisted his arm and cuffed him while he was not resisting."
