Not many people had a bigger year in entertainment than Pharrell Williams in 2013. The 40-year-old producer/rapper/singer/songwriter/fashion designer was everywhere this year, from award shows, covering magazines, hits all over the charts, scoring music for movies, and many business ventures outside of music. Pharrell composed the soundtrack to the movie Despicable Me and he has worked with almost nearly everyone in the industry from Miley Cyrus, Frank Ocean, Daft Punk, T.I., Solange Knowles, Mac Miller, Robin Thicke, Kanye West. Pharrell appeared alongside T.I. on Robin Thicke's hit single "Blurred Lines". The song has been a worldwide hit, has peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Pharrell's third Billboard Hot 100 number one single. Plus Pharrell released the first 24-hour music video to his Despicable Me 2 collaboration song, "Happy". With all of these accomplishments in 2013, GQ recognized Pharrell as one of their 5 people selected for the “Man of the Year” cover, which is well deserved.
Forgive me for calling him a coward, but Ariel Castro, the man who was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years for kidnapping and raping three woman for a decade, committed suicide in his prison cell. This is according to CNN. He was locked up in a Ohio prison and was found hanging in his cell. Prison medical staff tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead last night at 10:52 p.m. He was held in protective custody, which means he was in a cell by himself and every 30 minutes, someone was checking on him. He was actually taken off of suicide watch a while back. The crazy thing I heard this morning on the Today Show was Castro's attorney, Craig Weintraub, acknowledged that many people will likely say "good riddance," but said that he planned to "get to the bottom" of the circumstances surrounding Castro's death. "This is a human being," Castro's attorney said. I thought that was kind of funny because he treated those girls he kidnapped and raped for a decade, like caged animals. Do you think he should have rotted in jail or are you happy your taxes aren't paying for this man to sit in jail?
