According to bossip.com, Angelina Jolie has made a big decision that could possibly save her life. She has gotten a double mastectomy to avoid cancer. Angelina's mom fought cancer for almost a decade and died at age 56. This made Angelina and others around her question if the same thing could happen to her because she carries a "faulty" gene, BRCA1. This gene increases her risks of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The doctors estimated that Angelina has an 87% risk of breast cancer and 50% risk of ovarian cancer. Angelina wanted to be more proactive and started with her breast first because the risk of breast cancer is higher than the risk of ovarian cancer. On April 27 she finished her three months of medical procedures and was able to keep the surgery private as she continues on with her work. We wish her the best.
