If you take public transportation on a regular, you may have to start carrying extra money because SEPTA will increase the fare starting July 1. They actually want to wean the tokens and have people use the "smart" card. According to philly.com, the proposed fare increases are scheduled to take effect July 1 if approved by the SEPTA board and a second round of changes, tied to the full implementation of the smart-card system, is to take effect around July 1, 2014. Fare increase will include the cost of a cash bus, subway, or trolley fare to $2.25. The fare has been $2. The cash fare would rise again, to $2.50, when the new system is fully in place. As for the weekly bus and subway passes, it would raise to $24.50 from the current $22 and for a monthly transit pass, look to no longer pay $83, because it will go up to  $92. Monthly trail passes for zones will also increase by 9 percent. How do you feel about these changes?
