July 4th Is Deadliest Day On The Roads - If you’re driving this fourth of July weekend take special care on the roads because studies have found that Independence day travel is the deadliest for drivers. According to research done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, more than 670 people were killed on the fourth of July between 2007 and 2011, about 134 each year. Officials advise drivers to “ Buckle up, obey the speed limits and put your phone away while you’re behind the wheel.”

'Normal' Barbie Shows Us What Mattel Dolls Might Look Like If Based On Actual Women - An artist named Nickolay Lamm has created a Barbie that shows us what the doll would look like if it was created based on real life women. Center for Disease Control measurements of the average 19 year old woman were used to create the image. Lamm said, “If we criticize skinny models, we should at least be open to the possibility that Barbie may negatively influence young girls as well. Furthermore, a realistically proportioned Barbie actually looks pretty good.”  The model is a lot shorter than the original Barbie. She has a little more weight on her and she is wider. Her feet are bigger and her butt is bigger.  She’s just thicker. Check out the picture HERE.

Police Gun Down Dog- California police officers shot and killed an 80 pound Rottweiler that jumped out of its owners car right in front of him. The encounter was caught on video tape as officers shot the dog 4 times before he collapsed and died on the street. Officers say that the dog jumped out of the car, after the owner was pulled over, and started acting aggressively, but all he was going was barking. Officers said they tried to control the dog but that they were scared the dog would bite. The video actually shows the cop charging at the dog. You don’t do that when the dog is on defense because it senses the hostile environment. The owner of the dog is understandably devastated but the police department is calling the shooting “justified.” SMH Cops are supposed to defuse problems. Not make them worse.  This could have been handled a different way and to shoot the dog 4 times? That was unnecessary. This contributes to the violent culture we have.  Shooting anything should be the last resort.  This guy needs to be fired for not being about to properly handle a situation that is not that serious.

Study Finds Spending Time Near The Ocean Is Beneficial - A new study conducted in the UK has found that there are a lot of health benefits you can get from spending time near the ocean. Researchers studied people who live near the ocean and found that they have better overall health. Even people of lower socioeconomic status who lived near the sea had greater health benefits. They hope to continue the research and develop official therapy.

Student Loan Rate Double - As if school wasn’t expensive enough the student loan rate has doubled! The interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans doubled to 6.8 and could stay at that rate if Congress doesn’t go through with its pledge to lower rates when it reconvenes after the 4th of July holiday. Subsidized Stafford loans taken out before Monday will not be effected by the rate hike neither are federal PLUS, Perkins or unsubsidized loans.

Burglar Caught On Camera Enters Plea - The man that was caught on a home nanny cam entering a NJ home and beating a woman in front of her child on the couch as he robbed her home has entered his plea in court. He plead not guilty to attempted murder, robbery, burglary and child endangerment.

Doctor Describes Zimmerman's Injuries - A medical examiner testified in George Zimmerman's trial yesterday that the injuries he suffered during his alleged fight with Trayvon Martin were insignificant. Dr. Valerie Rao said on the stand that the injuries to the back of Zimmerman's head, "They were so minor that the individual who treated and examined Mr. Zimmerman decided stitches weren't required." The people defending Zimmerman said the injuries he received where bad, but the Doctor is saying Zimmermans life wasn't in jeopardy during his fight with Martin. Also yesterday, the judge tossed out the statement from a police detective who interrogated Zimmerman. The detective said that he found Zimmerman credible in his description of fighting with Martin because he never changed his story. They tossed his statements because of what a friend of Zimmerman, who wrote a book, said about the case. The author testified that Zimmerman told him the unarmed Martin had grabbed his gun during their struggle, but that Zimmerman was able to pull it away. That account was different from what Zimmerman told investigators, which was only that it appeared Martin was reaching for the gun. A fingerprint examiner testified that none of Martin's prints were found on Zimmerman's gun.
