Apple is known for its ridiculous sales with its iPhone and iPad devices, but today the company is bragging about its “Beyoncé” sales.
Beyoncé’s album released last Friday, and has officially become the fastest selling album ever on iTunes, the company announced. According to abcnews.com, the album has been downloaded 828,773 times (and counting). It also broke the U.S. first week album sales record.
Of course, the fact that the album was available exclusively through iTunes and not via any other digital music service helped push along the sales. Additionally, fans couldn't buy single songs for the usual 99-cent price; instead they were forced to buy the whole album for $15.99.
Do you feel more artists are going to take this approach, just releasing new albums out of nowhere? It may be hard to keep that many people quiet, but sure would help album sales with projects not hitting the Internet weeks in advance. 2014 should be an interesting year for music marketing, because Jay Z and B just raised the bar to a new level.
